Morgan Stone
Director of Software Engineering

I translate business goals into high-velocity technical execution across a 32-person global org.

Architecture × P&L. I came up through marketing and design, then went deep on full-stack and systems engineering, so I frame architecture decisions in business terms rather than purely technical ones. I work at the boundary between engineering and the business. This year that meant working alongside legal on the SLA language behind a health-system partnership worth ~$7M in annual revenue to RVO. Most of the past decade has been in regulated healthcare data, where compliance is the precondition for revenue, not a tax on it.

Selected impact

Regulated data

$14.5M

Built and held the trust posture that regulated revenue depends on

Directed the SOC 2 Type 1 and Type 2 effort and have maintained that posture across annual audit cycles. I work fluently with state health-privacy law (MHMD) and the security reviews enterprise health customers run before they sign, in environments that also operate under HITRUST. The compliance environment is native to how I build, not a layer added at the end.

AI enablement

100%

Zero to 100% weekly-active AI adoption in twelve months

Took weekly-active AI coding adoption across my org from near-zero to 100% in a year (reported at our monthly operational-excellence review), with the habits that made it stick: AI show-and-tells in sprint reviews and shared repos of reusable AI skills. Tracked against explicit guardrails: faster without breaking things or burning people out.

AI in product

+25%

AI shipped into the product, not just the dev loop

My teams shipped AI-generated review summaries on Healthgrades, built end-to-end in two months. They added AI sentiment analysis to the content-review approval flow, cutting the noise auditors wade through so 25% more submitted reviews cleared manual review. And they used AI to surface Solr optimizations that lifted search throughput from 4.5k to 5.4k docs/sec.

Partnership

164 days

Zocdoc scheduling integration, 107K+ providers

Delivered a complex scheduling partnership end-to-end in under six months, expanding provider search to 107,000+ doctors. The integration was covered in Newsweek.

Delivery

5 teams decoupled

Re-platformed off a .NET monolith, decoupled the release train

Re-platformed Healthgrades' highest-traffic pages (up to 80% of site traffic) off a coupled .NET monolith onto independently releasable Node apps in Kubernetes. Five teams that shared one release train now ship on their own at 22.4 releases/week, tracked with DORA to balance speed and quality.

FinOps

$300K+

AWS and vendor cost reductions

AWS cost optimization, a technology vendor consolidation, and folding 600+ repos onto a single version-control platform - each surface identified and closed across separate initiative cycles.

  • QA infra · $94K
  • 600+ repos · $45K

Career

15+ years building and leading web and digital product work, from designing and shipping sites hands-on to directing a 32-person engineering org.

From 2014 on it's one continuous tenure: I joined Medseek (soon Influence Health) and stayed through three changes of ownership - Healthgrades, Red Ventures, and RVO Health - promoted at each step from architect to engineering manager to director. The company changed around me; I kept delivery and trust steady through every transition.

  1. Jul 2023 – Present

    Director of Software Engineering

    RVO Health

Lead a 32-person global org across 6 core teams and 3 engineering managers. I operate across the engineering-business boundary: managing cloud and vendor cost, partnering with procurement on renewals and with legal on contract and SLA terms, governing the CapEx process with finance and product, keeping my teams accountable to our security org's SLAs, owning compliance, and running pre-sales customer security assessments, all while balancing delivery speed against stability and team sustainability.

  2. Jun 2022 – Jul 2023

    Software Engineering Manager

    RVO Health

Eliminated a $1M Transition Services Agreement on schedule by rebuilding a critical ROI analytics program, replacing a 5-person legacy operation with a single strategic hire. Mentored a senior engineer into an engineering manager role ahead of my Director promotion.

  3. Aug 2021 – Jun 2022

    Software Engineering Manager

    Red Ventures

Led the first phase of platform modernization - migrating Healthgrades' highest-traffic pages off legacy .NET to Kubernetes-orchestrated Node.js and GraphQL, serving 60% of site traffic and 420K+ daily users. Merged disparate engineering teams during the reorg.

  4. Aug 2018 – Aug 2021

    Software Engineering Manager

    Influence Health / Healthgrades

Prototyped a greenfield CDP in five days to secure executive approval post-acquisition, then built it out on Elasticsearch under HITRUST. On the CRM side, moved a team from high-risk quarterly deployments to reliable sprint-based releases.

  5. May 2014 – Aug 2018

    UI/UX Architect

    Influence Health / Medseek

Architected platform-wide design systems across enterprise healthcare SaaS, drove the flagship patient portal to WCAG Level A, and established the foundational CI/CD pipelines for front-end delivery.

  6. 2006 – 2014

Director of Web Design & Art Director

    Zeekee Interactive

Started part-time in college, full-time and leading by 2010. At a small agency I designed and shipped 100+ websites, from local restaurants to regional music festivals (and one album cover for Alabama). Primarily design, but the responsive-design era pulled me steadily into code.

Speaking & teaching

Credentialed instructor in Interactive Design at UAB (2014-2018). Frequent speaker at Birmingham developer and design meetups on front-end performance, rapid prototyping, and architecture.

Connect

I do my best work where engineering sits close to the product and the P&L, in regulated or data-rich domains where compliance is a competitive asset rather than a drag. If that's the kind of org you're building, LinkedIn is the best way in.

Outside of work I collect watches, own an Eames Lounge Chair, and spend weekends at the smoker.
